Search Engine Traffic Myths
There is SO much hype about traffic derived from search engines.
Contained in that hype are 3 basic myths. They are:
1. Build it and They Will Come
2. All Traffic is Good Traffic
3. Traffic Should be FREEBuild it and They Will Come
Many webmasters think that once their site goes online, the work is over -
that visitors will just magically appear on their virtual doorstep.
In reality, getting traffic from search engines is tedious work that
often generates few visitors, or no traffic at all.
And here’s why.

You can spend months learning how to design a site that is “search
engine friendly”. You have to write title, description and keyword Meta
tags; and perfect the keyword density within your pages. You’ll also spend hours submitting your site to Yahoo!, Google,
DMOZ, and at least a hundred more search engines.Months will pass until your site is ‘spidered’ and listed. And because your
site is new, it probably doesn’t have many ‘inbound links’ that help
increase its ranking. Finally, your listing may appear on the tenth, twentieth or last page of
search results which of course most visitors will never see.Despite your frustration with the poor ranking, you’ll likely begin the
process again by ‘tweaking’ those tags and asking for inbound links from
other sites.Meanwhile, at this point, it’s probably been a year since you started
working on your Internet business, and the site still hasn’t made a
sale.So forget ‘build it and they will come’. It just doesn’t happen that way.
